Our Journey

Journey of the “Flame of Hope”

On September 27th, 2019, the “Nagasaki Flame of Commitment” will arrive at Urakami Cathedral, which was destroyed by an atomic bomb. All in attendance will pray for peace while the “Flame of Hope” is used to light candles during the ceremony, and this renewed flame will continue on its journey.

After leaving Urakami Cathedral, the Flame will be taken to Buddhist temples, Christian churches, Islamic mosques, and other places of worship, as well as to festivals—wherever people pray and wish for peace.

We will add a flame to the “Flame of Hope” from each place we visit and continue on our journey.

At Hiroshima Peace Park, flame from the “Peace Flame” will be added to the “Flame of Hope.” With stored wishes from all the places the Flame visited in Japan, it will travel to Tokyo where Pope Francis will use it during a Mass on November 25th.

“Flame of Hope” pilgrims from around the world will be there to represent all people’s wishes for peace on Earth.
